Ruhling Herbst joined BankservAfrica in 2016. Initially, he was responsible for driving and extending the value of the Electronic Payments service suite. Under the guidance of BankservAfrica's strategy, Ruhling’s focus shifted to the organisation's broader modernisation and growth aspirations. Here, he played an instrumental role in industry-led research programmes and initiating strategic initiatives, such as the Rapid Payments Programme and the African Regional Cross-border and Regional Payments Hub programmes. At present, Ruhling is responsible for leading BankservAfrica’s growth efforts across the border and spearheading the implementation of a low value, cross border payment scheme and operations in the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Ruhling is also supporting the organisation to plan the BankservAfrica transformation journey for extending the use of BankservAfrica’s new, modern payments platform.
Ruhling’s professional career is grounded in the banking sector. Prior to joining BankservAfrica, Ruhling headed up the organisational development efforts for a prominent short-term insurer. He has also owned and managed a management consulting company and was privileged to be part of several innovative start-ups.
Ruhling takes pride in creating and extending value to stakeholders and has extensive experience in strategy formulation and planning; business development and design; organisational design and development; programme leadership and business management.
