Lorna McLaren is Head of Product at African insurtech aYo Holdings, which is 100% owned by telecommunications giant MTN.
Since launching in Uganda in January 2017, aYo has grown into a major player in the African microinsurance market, using a ‘pay as you go’ insurance model that gives policyholders access to easy, affordable life and hospital cover.
As a qualified actuary, Ms McLaren has two decades of experience in the insurance and financial services sector across Africa and Asia, including stints with Hollard in South Africa and AIG in Singapore. She holds a BBus degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town, an MSc in Quantitative Finance from the University of London, and an MBA from the UCT Graduate School of Business.
