Speaker Bio

Juliet Wangui Maina is the Regulatory and Public Policy lead at M-PESA Africa.  She has previously worked with Policy Impact Partners, a global firm that provides bespoke policy advisory support to private players in the ICT sector. Prior to joining Policy Impact Partners, Juliet worked with the mobile money team at the GSMA where she was responsible for developing thought leadership and guidelines for the mobile money industry based on industry best practice. Among other things, Juliet was responsible for authoring content that acts as reference material for policymakers and private sector actors seeking to understand the future of mobile money regulation.


Juliet joined the GSMA from the law firm TripleOKLaw Advocates, where she oversaw setting up and leading the Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) practice. She has also facilitated several CPD sessions with the Law Society of Kenya and facilitated training at the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) for ICT sector regulators. Juliet has experience working at the ICT regulator in Kenya, and Pygma Consulting, an ICT Consulting firm in South Africa.


Juliet received her LL. B with Honors from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2010 and later completed a Master’s program in ICT Policy and Regulation (with distinction) at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
