Bart-Jan is Senior Director Mobile Money & Inclusive Fintech for the GSMA’s Mobile Money Programme.
Bart leads on the engagements with mobile money providers and wider mobile and fintech industry stakeholders on subjects relating to business, innovation, and financial inclusion. He is also responsible for the GSMA Inclusive Tech Lab, the innovation facility in which the GSMA, mobile money providers, tech and fintech companies, and other industry stakeholders work together to develop and trial technological innovations for the industry’s biggest challenges and opportunities related to financial inclusion of the poor.
Before joining the GSMA, Bart-Jan consulted companies around the globe in the domain of mobile and digital payments, including operators, handset manufacturers, banks, and regulators. After, he managed a business unit for UL, working with Apple, Samsung, and over 100 financial institutions to bring their innovative mobile payments services to market in 30+ countries worldwide.
Bart-Jan has worked and lived abroad in various countries, including the US, Brazil, Switzerland, and Sudan. He holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from Leiden University, Netherlands.
