Instant payment systems have overgrown the continent, but how inclusive are they? To what extent do they enable or prevent payment service providers from reaching lower-income people? There is no actual consolidated stock-take of the current state and trends in instant and inclusive payment systems in Africa. AfricaNenda partnered with the World Bank and UNECA to fill this gap in producing the first annual think piece on the role of instant and inclusive payment systems (IIPS) in achieving financial inclusion for all in Africa. The report features several emerging trends at the scheme, market and demand levels likely to shape the African IIPS ecosystem over the coming years.
